Portsmouth 2015 Educational Conference was a success, so The Eastern States Building Officials Federation Directors are planning to return to Historic Portsmouth, New Hampshire for 2016. The two and a half day event will include instruction and CEU credits on ICC codes and plan review, preparation for ICC certifications, NFPA Topics and optional ICC Testing at the conclusion of the conference and networking with leaders in construction and code industry.
Located along the New Hampshire Seacoast, Portsmouth offers a great selection of restaurants, historic and cultural venues and opportunities to capture the beauty of New England charm.
The 2016 conference will be hosted downtown at the Sheraton Harborside Conference Center. You must register by March 14, 2016 to be eligible for the group discount.

Registration for membership in RIBOA is now open. All members must re-new their membership each calendar year. Membership runs from January 1, 2016 through December 31, 2016. You must be a member in good standing in order to participate in all RIBOA events. Membership fee is $40 as voted on by the membership.
The New Hampshire Building Officials Association will be hosting the 66th Annual Eastern States Building Officials Federation Educational Conference in Historic Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The two day event will include instruction on ICC 2015 Code updates, NEC updates and NFPA topics, FEMA and disaster mitigation guidelines. Courses will be eligible for continuing educational credits while providing participants the latest in construction and code industry standards.
We will kick off the 66th Annual Educational Conference with a welcoming event beginning Sunday evening at the Sheraton Harborside Hotel. Get to know Portsmouth by exploring the historic downtown. For a nominal fee of $50 you can sign up for the "Meet, Mix and Mingle" which includes a voucher for a dinner at a selection of Portmouth's finest eateries, then meet back at the Sheraton Harborside for a complimentary cocktail and entertainment including a Live Blues Band. The RIBOA membership recently voted to change the membership year to be equivalent to the calendar year. Further, the membership fee was set at $40.00 for membership from January 1st of each year until December 31st of each year.
RIBOA Recogonized at ICC Annual Conference in Ft. Lauderdale, FL -- September 2014
Last year, RIBOA voted to expend funds to sponsor all 9 RI Vocational Technical Schools into theInternational Code Council (ICC)High School Technical Training Program. Recogonizing that we need to give back to the industry, our members not only sponsored these groups into the program but also have become mentors at each school!! As a result of these actions, the ICC recently recogonized RIBOA in September 2014 at its annual conference in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida at two seperate events!
In the video to the left, RIBOA is mentioned at the 2:25 minute mark of the video at the Annual Business Meeting. In the video to the right, RIBOA is recogonized with an ICC Chaper Merit Award at its Awards Luncheon. A formal presentation is planned for November 19, 2014 at our Installation of Officers event.

The Town of West Warwick is seeking a part time Minimum Housing Inspector for approx: 19 hours a week. Applicants must have an Associate’s degree in criminal justice, construction technology, public administration or equal and 2 years of code enforcement experience or related field. The Minimum Housing Inspector enforces various codes and ordinances for the Town.

John Runge, Jr., 58, of Lincoln, RI, died Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at Hospice Inpatient Center, Providence. Born in Queens, NY, he was the son of Edith (Henkel) Lagzdins of Wakefield, RI and the late John Runge. John was the building inspector for the town of Cumberland for the last twelve years. He received his BS from SUNY at New Paltz. John grew up in Woodstock, New York, toured the country as a lead guitar player with various groups and was a home builder in Florida. Besides his mother he is survived by a brother, Igor Runge and his wife Ann Marie of Wakefield, RI; a sister, Yvonne Donovan of New Smyrna Beach, FL; two nephews, Max Runge of Wakefield and Barron Donovan of New Smyrna Beach and a niece Erika Runge of Wakefield. A memorial gathering will be held Sunday February 27th from 2-4 PM at the Cumberland Senior Center, 1464 Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland. Donations in his memory may be made to Home and Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.

John Runge--Building Inspector from Cumberland
The employees of the Town of Cumberland are saddened at the passing of John Runge, our Building Inspector. John has served the town since 1999 and will be missed as a co-worker and friend. Rest in Peace, John. The members of the Rhode Island Building Official's Association are deeply saddened by the loss of John Runge. We keep him and his family in our thoughts and prayers.

On October 19, 2010 International Code Council CEO Rick Weiland was in RI to announce with Govorner Donald Carcieri and RI State Building Commissioner Jack Leyden that RI is the FIRST State to adopt the ICC Green Construction Code via the RI "Green Buildings Act."
Govorner Carcieri also installed the recently elected RIBOA officers and CEO Rick Weiland pined each new officer.
